Dream Big
In this class, we'll explore dreams and aspirations and how to achieve them. We will spend time studying Westward Expansion and how the early pioneers endured struggles to try to make their dreams a reality. Through simulations, games, activities, and art projects (including building their own covered wagons), students will truly understand this critical part of history. Starting each class with an inspirational song will help students develop the skill of determining the author's/artist's message. Every week will consist of reading a story, identifying themes such as courage, resiliency, persistence, problem-solving, etc and doing small projects to bring them to life. We will work on enhancing our writing by developing sensory details and figurative language. Using these important concepts, students will ultimately write their own poems in which they personally describe their own dreams and how they will achieve them. Join us as we cover important social studies, reading, and writing standards and strengthen our creativity, critical thinking, and decision making skills, all while having fun!

Exploring Our World Through Science and Art
All new content for returning students.
In this class, we will explore the world around us through the eyes of famous and not-so-famous scientists. What makes the physical world work, and what are scientific phenomena? There will be loads of STEAM hands-on learning with FUN and EXCITING science experiments, and we will be tackling engineering projects as we learn how things work, become better problem solvers, and logical thinkers.
Art will be a creative exploration of famous artists, art techniques, and expression. Some art may dovetail into our science/engineering projects or be a separate masterpiece.
In my class, students will learn team-building skills, the importance of classroom citizenship, and, of course, making new friends! The lessons will include enrichment curriculum, hands-on projects, and activities, helping children discover their learning potential in creative, engaging, and fun ways. Many state standards will be covered in Science, Math, and Art along with some History and Language Arts.
