Discoverers
Once Upon a Natural Disaster
Step into a magical world where fairy tales and science collide. In this class, students will explore classic stories from multiple perspectives while investigating natural forces like tornadoes, wildfires, earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis, and ocean erosion. Each week features read-alouds paired with hands-on experiments, allowing students to observe, test, and reflect on how nature shapes landscapes, structures, and communities. Through storytelling and scientific exploration, students develop reading comprehension, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. In the final weeks, students write their own fractured fairy tales inspired by the stories they’ve read and design a 3D model of a ride that brings their narrative to life. This culminating project combines writing, creativity, and STEM understanding in a fun, interactive showcase. This class offers a hands-on enrichment experience that sparks imagination, deepens literacy, and brings science to life.
